Submission guidelines
MacNative lists apps that feel like they belong on macOS. Every submission is reviewed by hand against the bar below — there's no paid placement and no guaranteed listing.
We list
What we’re looking for
- Native, or compiled to a native binary. Swift / SwiftUI / AppKit or Objective-C, or a systems language that compiles to a real binary — Rust, C / C++, Go, Zig. A Rust menu-bar app with a native UI layer is welcome.
- Follows macOS conventions. Real menu bar, keyboard shortcuts, drag-and-drop, light / dark mode, standard window behavior.
- Solves a real problem well. Focused and polished — noticeably faster or nicer than doing the thing by hand.
- Shipping and maintained. Downloadable today, runs on a current macOS, updated within roughly the last year.
- Honest about itself. Clear pricing, clear permission requests, no dark patterns.
We pass
What we reject
- Browser wrappers. Electron, NW.js, a Tauri app that's only web UI, a site in a WKWebView. A web app bundled with Electron and no native surface is not a fit.
- Low-effort AI-generated apps. Vibe-coded output shipped as-is: broken layouts, placeholder copy, no error handling, no real testing. Building with AI is fine — shipping its first draft is not.
- Cross-platform apps that ignore the Mac. The Windows UI recompiled, non-native widgets, no macOS integration.
- Thin wrappers and clones. One API call behind a form, a reskin of an open-source project, a to-do list with nothing new.
- Abandoned or unavailable. Dead download links, last update years ago, needs an ancient macOS.
- Misleading listings. Fake screenshots, undisclosed subscriptions, sketchy permission grabs.
Gray areas
- Electron / Tauri with real native work — a genuine menu-bar agent, Metal rendering, deep system integration — is considered case by case. Tell us what's native.
- Catalyst and Mac App Store ports are fine when they feel at home on the Mac, not just an iPad app in a window.
Before you hit submit
- A square icon (required) and at least one real screenshot.
- One honest sentence on what the app does.
- If it's a close call, a line on what makes it native.
